Toothache — Don’t wait for tooth pain to go away on its own. Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth. Check for any signs of an abscess, such as swelling near the tooth. An over-the-counter inflammatory can provide temporary relief but avoid methods such as holding an aspirin against your tooth.
Cracked/Broken/Chipped Teeth — Store your missing tooth fragment in liquid (milk is best) and bring it to our office to see if Dr. Esmaili can re-cement it.
Loose or Knocked Out Teeth — Stabilize your tooth or reinsert it into the socket (if you can’t, store it in liquid.) Get to our office within the hour to have the tooth braced for healing.
Bleeding — Your mouth is a part of your body that can bleed very heavily during an injury. Use a clean cloth or tissue to apply pressure to the oral injury. If bleeding is severe, head to the nearest emergency room.
Loose Bridges/Fillings/Crows — Do not attempt to re-cement or glue your restoration back on. Keep it in a zip top bag so that you don’t lose it. If it feels loose, do not force it off. Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth and get to our office for an appointment as soon as possible.
What to do in a Dental Emergency
Stay calm. If there’s bleeding, apply firm pressure to the area. Knocked out or chipped teeth should be stored safe in a sealed container, covered with milk or contact solution. Get to our Boulder dentist office within the hour to avoid more drastic treaments like a tooth extraction. Ask us about Sunday emergencies.
Did you know that most types of dental emergencies are preventable? Addressing problems like single tooth cavities or cracked teeth as soon as they’re diagnosed can prevent them from worsening between your checkups.
Wearing a mouthguard during athletic activities can prevent problems like broken or knocked out teeth. They may also guard against concussions! We offer custom sports guards right here at PeakView Dentistry.
