Pinhole rejuvenation is a revolutionary approach to treating gum recession without oral surgery or gum grafts. The scalpel-free, suture-free treatment offers same day results without a referral to an oral surgeon.
Why it Matters
Gum recession can pose aesthetic challenges, but they also put your oral health at risk. When root surfaces are exposed, the weaker areas of your teeth are more prone to sensitivity, decay, and bone shrinkage. Over time, excessive gum recession can contribute to tooth mobility and loss.
Until now, the only treatment available for gum recession involved grafting — that is, moving gum tissue from one part of your mouth (or a donor) to the area that’s exposed — requiring uncomfortable surgery or lengthy recovery times.
Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation offers instant cosmetic improvement and can be completed in about an hour.
How it Works
When you make your bed, you pull the sheet or blanket up to cover the mattress. Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation is similar; Dr. Esmaili uses the surrounding gingiva (gums) to gently stretch them over your tooth. To ensure you’re comfortable, we’ll use a small amount of local anesthetic to numb that part of your mouth.
A small, pinhole-sized opening is created in your gums higher up the root of your tooth. Then a thin instrument is inserted into the opening to loosen the attached gingiva in that area. Once free, the gums are tugged downwards until the edges line up nicely over the affected tooth.
Graft-Free Gum Therapy
Pinhole treatments are more affordable than surgical grafts, making them gentler on you and your budget. Without the lengthy recovery times, you can take less time off work and complete the procedure in just one appointment.
“Do I Need to See a Specialist?”
For advanced gum services, most people see specialists such as a periodontist. However, Peakview Dentistry offers this state-of-the-art treatment right here in our Boulder office! Now you can safe on your care costs and enjoy the same high quality results.
What to Expect During Your Procedure
You can book your Pinhole treatment at any time, as it’s fairly straightforward with little to no recovery time needed. Dr. Esmaili will apply a small amount of local anesthetic to numb the area being treated, so that you don’t have to feel a thing.
Recovery from Pinhole treatment is easy. Some minimal irritation may occur, otherwise you can go about your normal routine as soon as the anesthetic wears off!
